Lakewood Ranch is a master-planned community spanning 33,000 acres along the boundary between Manatee and Sarasota Counties to Sarasota’s northeast. The community is comprised of more than 20 distinctive villages and several town centers featuring lots of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Lakewood Ranch’s extensive sports facilities include polo grounds, swimming pools, fitness centers, 12 pickleball and 20 tennis courts, 23 multi-purpose sports fields, and three golf courses totaling 54 holes. Other amenities include numerous community parks, fishing lakes, and 150 miles of trails.
Most of Lakewood Ranch’s villages feature attractive single-family homes with a wide variety of home styles, floor plans, and price ranges. Some villages also have condominiums, townhouses, and assisted living facilities.
Residents of Lakewood Ranch can join any of the numerous community clubs and organizations based around a wide variety of sports, activities, and special interests. The community contains fitness and wellness facilities, including Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. The abundance of facilities promoting health and wellness at Lakewood Ranch has earned the community ideal-LIVING’s Best Wellness Community distinction. The community also has around two dozen public and private schools and pre-school learning centers that promote an excellent standard of education.
The various town centers within Lakewood Ranch contain more than 200 businesses. The attractive open-air Main Street Town Center has stylish boutiques and international restaurants. Highlights include seafood specialties at Pinchers Crab Shack, flavorful Peruvian cuisine at Inkawasi, authentic Japanese sushi at Hana Sushi Lounge, classic Italian fare at Main Street Trattoria, and chic French bistro dining at Paris Bistrot. Lakewood Ranch Cinemas at Main Street screens all the latest releases. The Green offers numerous big-name brand stores and services, including LA Fitness, Starbucks, Chipotle, and Panera Bread. Keke’s Breakfast Cafe offers tasty plates of classic American breakfast and lunch eats. The Green also features the Modern Gents barbershop and the Lavish Nails & Spa salon. Waterside Place is one of Lakewood Ranch’s newest developments with lots more shops, restaurants, and a performing arts venue staging around 400 performances per year. Lakewood Ranch Farmers’ Market takes place at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center each Sunday with 50 vendors offering fresh produce alongside high-quality bread, juices, meat, pasta, poultry, and seafood. Grocery shopping is also available at Publix supermarkets located at four of Lakewood Ranch’s town centers.
Lakewood Ranch has lots of parks, trails, and recreational amenities. Bob Garden Community Park stretches for one mile with sports courts, a gravity rail, and a frisbee golf course surrounded by wetland preserves and conservation areas. James L. Patton Community Park offers a picnic pavilion and a playground on the shores of Lake Patton. Heron’s Nest Nature Park extends over 110 scenic acres with fishing and boating at Heron Lake and Summerfield Lake. Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club features three golf courses, 12 pickleball courts, 20 tennis courts, a 24-hour fitness center, and two clubhouses for social gatherings. Lakewood Ranch’s Premier Sports Campus extends over 140 acres with 23 multipurpose sports fields. The 130-acre grounds of Sarasota Polo Club attracts thousands of spectators for fast-paced Sunday polo matches. The club’s extensive facilities include seven polo fields, a half-mile horse track, and stables for up to 300 horses.
